The profession of a teacher is slowly losing its meaning. Normally, people think teachers are there to convey information to students in a classroom setting. However, I chose this profession because a teacher must also touch the hearts of every student, as my previous teachers did with mine. When I was in 7th grade, my family and I moved to China because my dad took up a job in a small international school in Beijing. I was initially apprehensive, for I was unsure as to what to expect. I was also really scared as to what my new school would be like, because it was going to be a place where I'd have to spend most of my time. After a few weeks, all of the apprehension disappeared. My teachers, whom I will never forget, made the very small school into a place that I considered home. Up to this day, whenever I think of those people and that school, I call it my "home away from home." Since then, I've seen the teaching profession as a noble one. It goes beyond the lectures, the homework, and the exams. It is a profession where we are given the power to mold young individuals into the men and women they are meant to be. It is a profession where we are given the power to make students feel heard, cared for, and understood. I believe that as an international student, I've met and connected with kids from various backgrounds. I am aware that each kid comes from a different household, a different culture, and a different country. I believe that when given the opportunity, I will be able to connect and nurture each child entrusted to me. And I am confident that I can help each child reach their maximum potential.
